What does Social Distancing mean?

Social Distancing may be a term you have heard a lot in the news and on social media recently. But, what exactly is social distancing?

Social Distancing refers to taking extra measures to limit the amount of time you spend out in your community, and if you are out in the community then ensuring you take extra steps to keep your distancing from others.

Social Distancing is a practice being encouraged by health authorities to help reduce the risk of spread of infectious diseases. It is being especially encouraged now as we as a community need to begin to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Social Distancing is also being encouraged for those who are at higher risk to protect themselves from being potentially exposed to the virus. These include individuals who are immunocompromised, have a disability, are ageing, or have respiratory illnesses.

What steps do I need to take to be Social Distancing?

  1. It is encouraged that you stay at home as much as possible, if you have the ability to do so.
  2. If you need to leave the house, try to avoid crowded spaces and if you can keep a distance of 1.5 m from others.
  3. If you are at higher risk try to organise a family member or you social support professional to go and do your shopping or run your errands on your behalf.
  4. You should avoid physical touching, like hugging, kissing, or shaking hands.

Whilst these measures seem drastic, it’s important to remember that it is for the safety of yourself and those around you.
If you need someone to run errands, go shopping or go out in public for you – you can always engage the service of a social support professional to assist through these times.

Please contact us on 02 9158 6163 or via support@tappon.co if you or someone you love needs assistance during this time.
